Black Adam is another overhyped DC comics movie with clear influence by the new guard at Warner Bros Discovery. And not in a clever way.
To be honest, I feel bad for the cast of Black Adam and especially Dwayne Johnson. He’s been pushing for this movie for a while now. Credited as a producer, and we all know the back story of that, Johson had a lot riding on this movie. Sadly, what I got was a remake of Man Of Steel story with a lot of Marvel Cinematic Universe influence. The end result? Everything that made Johnson a movie start is erased in favor of a profoundly serious character with extremely low stakes. Unless you count another DC demon trying to end the universe. Didn’t we get enough of those already? Can’t the bosses at DC/WB produce something new?
On the other hand, the movie introduces us to the Justice Society, another DC Comics entity. However, one member definitely steals the show and it’s Dr. Fate played by Pierce Brosnan. If anything, Brosnan might have singlehandedly made the movie watchable.
Otherwise, we would have ended in a hybrid MCU style movie mixed with half of the Snyder DCEU tone using DC characters that no one cares about. A flat and surprisingly predictable movie from the first 10 minutes. Right from the beginning, you can actually see the twist (yes, you see it in front of your eyes even when the editing is trying to hide it),
However, what I didn’t see what the mid-credits scenes. Simply perfect, thanks to the absence of the mustache. 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻.
Should you watch it?
Skip the whole thing straight to the mid-credits scene. An extremely boring and predictable movie, even by today’s standards.
Where can I watch it?
Black Adam is now playing in theaters.
