Book Club: The Next Chapter [2023] – Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen

Book Club: The Next Chapter

Book Club: The Next Chapter is a lighthearted comedy that is elevated by stellar performances. Even if its story isn’t anything special, there’s a lot of laughs. A lot.

The first movie was an actual surprise. I expected it to be bad. Turned out great. Starring Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen and a lot more, The Next Chapter takes what’s a standard plot and make you live and laugh with four amazing actresses. It’s the kind of film that exists for the sole purpose of entertainment, which it provides consistently.

Think of it as 80 for Brady, but funny. Instead of meaningless sports advertisements and product placements, you get a tour of Italy…even if it’s a cheap one. Food, wine, Rome, Venice & Tuscany. Lots of heart, laughs and dirty jokes that made me fall off my couch laughing.

A whimsical and entertaining – if not a bit corny – comedy about women still looking for friendship and adventure. Yes, the four veteran stars deserved sharper dialogue and a better plot. But this is a rare sequel that doesn’t disappoint.

One does not go to a film like this one for Shakespearean drama that tests the morals of humanity itself, one goes to Book Club: The Next Chapter for innocent and heartfelt fun which the film delivers excellently.
