Dumb Money is an entertaining dumb movie about how rich people make money in a dumb way and how very recently, one guy managed to change that in the dumbest of ways.
Let’s be honest. There’s a much better version of Dumb Money out there in some alternate universe, but for now, this will do. Though rough and messy, this movie is entertaining enough for me to watch all of it, even when I wanted to give up. The movie focuses mostly on the power of the internet, especially social media, as a means of calling to action among people who would otherwise never connect. Not sure how good that is. Instead of approaching it from the social effect and personal dramas, we get sarcasm, and a week “stick it up to the man” vibes that fall mostly flat if it wasn’t for certain special performances.
Some scenes were super cringy…anything with Sebastian Stan in it for some reason. Other scenes were extremely good… anything with America Ferrera.
In fact, this movie might have been saved thanks to Paul Dano. His performance elevates this film far above its best line or sharpest edit. Everything else falls short.
Should You Watch It?
This chaotic movie has its flaws. But, if your bank balance is less than nine figures, there will be something here for you to enjoy. Comedy, chaos, and some drama.
Where Can I Watch It?
