Enola Holmes 2 is an entertaining follow-up to the original Netflix movie. This franchise still definitely isn’t for Sherlock purists.
Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill and the amazing Helena Bonham Carter, the movie builds on its predecessor with entertaining flair. Brown’s charm and charisma are the key to making this all work, her confidence and self-effacing performance, totally winning. Enola Holmes 2 doesn’t bring anything new to the table, but I don’t think it should be a bother. The franchise maintains the fizz and fun of the first movie, while offering a satisfying mystery.
Enola Holmes has always been different from her famous brother, and it’s obvious that Netflix’s interpretation of that is intentionally making it clear for us, the viewers, that they are different.
What makes it different from the original movie? This sequel highlights from british historical events with an incredibly unique lens. The action is exciting as exciting as the first movie, the romance is inspiring, the comedy is fun, and overall, the movie is a light and entertaining experience. I’m actually interested in seeing a third iteration of this.
Some might think of this franchise as popcorn – fluffy and insubstantial – but damn if it isn’t enjoyable in the moment. More of that buttery goodness, yes please.
Should you watch it?
Thankfully, this movie solves the mystery of how to make a satisfying sequel — and makes it look positively elementary. You don’t need to watch the first one (Even though I think it’s worth it) to enjoy this one. It feels fresh!
Where can I watch it?
You can stream both movies of Enola Holmes exclusively on Netflix everywhere.
