Everything Everywhere All at Once blows your mind from the get-go without even trying to. And that’s a good thing.
One of the best films of 2022, and probably one of my new favorites, Everything Everywhere All at Once doesn’t even try to establish itself as a serious movie. And that’s what it makes it special.
Led by an outstanding Michelle Yeoh, the movie lives up to its title with an expertly calibrated assault on the senses. Visual, sounds, brain and touch. All your senses are triggered with this amazing psychological science-fiction movie wrapped in a light hearted family story about a Chinese immigrant family who owns a laundromat.
Let’s be honest, I highly doubt that you’ll see anything better, more original or creative, intensely funny and exciting. It has all the right ingredients working in perfect unison. During the whole 2h 19m run, I never felt bored. I was engaged with Yeoh’s character even when she wasn’t on screen, or had no idea what’s going on. Get ready to be mind-blown…literally.
In fact, The Daniels (the two directors named Daniel in this movie) have achieved a rare feat of imaginative tenderness in their way of representing ordinary people getting beaten down by the cruel pressures of the world, and still finding ways to get back up again. However, I have to complement them also on the writing. I’m pretty sure that drugs were involved in order to imagine this script, and world. Loved every minute of it!
I laughed, wept, cheered and sobbed. Every version of me within the vast multiverse of existence loves this movie. Exciting, hilarious and heartfelt, it’s an achievement of the highest order. The universe needs this films.
Should you watch it?
Incredible acting, stunning visuals, and a really deep, powerful story, this movie has it. Easily a must watch and one of my new favorite movies.
