Film Review: Anyone But You [2023] – Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell

Anyone But You [2023] - Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell

Anyone But You is definitely one of the horniest movies this year. And for a good reason. Sweeney and Powell’s chemistry will make you sweat.

Starring Sydney Sweeney & Glen Powell, this is a movie that clearly knows itself. It’s a romantic comedy that makes no sense, but its stars are EXTREMELY easy on the eyes with great on-screen chemistry.

In fact, I only decided to watch the movie because I have a thing for Powell. The trailer only sold the sex appeal, and that’s fine. If anything, the movie looks like it’s going to stumble at every turn, scene and word spoken. But the romantic comedy manages to pull off the win in a surprisingly charming and rewatchable movie. The endless cliches and contrivances work because Sweeney and Powell deliver the goods. They work very hard to sell the film’s sexy-sweet-funny formula – and I’m buying.

Ultimately, it gets by on the comic timing of its leads, even if the painfully contrived script frequently falls short. As rom coms go, this is a solid choice. Yes, the film is not destined to become a cornerstone of romance, but it is a gentle and remarkably simple way to understand why cinematic romance never dies.

Should You Watch It?

Not every movie needs a complicated story. Some, just like this one, are just a big jar of marshmallow fluff. And I’m here for it.
