The Bad Guys 2 is fun. Not as fun as the first, but the film makes up for that by aiming for a more mature audience with its jokes.
Starring Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Awkwafina, and others, The Bad Guys 2 picks up at the end of the first movie. Our infamous gang has converted to the good side, but things aren’t going as expected, until they do.
Honestly, the film is chaotic without feeling out of control. And when you’re doing animation, that’s a good thing. The film knows how to work both sides of the line, entertaining the kids with bold, colorful humor (including, yes, an extended fart joke) while playing it smart for the grown-ups.
The action sequences are energetic, and the jokes are more funny than corny. As an almost 40 years old millennial, I really enjoyed the movie. I laughed out loud, and I smiled in others.
This sequel is a mark of a really great franchise film that you not only come out of the theater smiling but can’t wait to see where it goes next. Dreamworks should definitely work on a third installment, and unleash the team’s creativity.
Should You Watch It?
By no means deep work, and it’s not meant to be. The Bad Guys 2 is a solid sequel that delivers more of the same humour and action that made its predecessor a hit.
Where Can I Watch It?
The Bad Guys 2 is now playing in theaters.
