Disney’s Tron: Ares is a basic story wrapped in stunning visuals showcasing Vancouver, as well as an amazing soundtrack.
Starring Jared Leto & Greta Lee, Ares is the third movie in the franchise with one of the loosest connections to its predecessors.
Set to a pulse-pounding original soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails and jaw-dropping digital effects custom-made for the big screen, this is an exhilarating spectacle that dazzles both audibly and visually.
All the bells and whistles are clearly made for a Disney Parks spin-off. And honestly, I didn’t mind that. However, what I found annoying is the imbalance in the storytelling and editing.
The first half of the movie is full of exposition and spoon-feeding. Yes, I get that you need to fill a lot of backstories, especially for the new characters. But did we really need four different explanations of a “program” every five minutes?
On the other hand, as soon as Ares (Jared Leto) escapes the digital world, the movie instantly got a thousand times better. And speaking of Leto, it seems the overhyped method actor has finally found the perfect role by playing a soulless algorithm. It’s terribly ironic that ChatGPT has more personality than Leto’s Ares. Morbius anyone?
The visuals are stunning, the action sequences are amazing, and the story finally starts to make sense, even with the nostalgia play in the third act.
