Furiosa keeps the essence of the Mad Max saga but misses on some of the action and other elements. It’s a fun and sometimes intense movie.
Starring Anya Taylor-Joy & Chris Hemsworth, the movie is a prequel to Fury Road. It’s meant to fill the background story of how Furiosa came to be.
Story aside, Taylor-Joy kicks ass in this movie. it’s like it was written for her. Yes, director George Miller‘s world-building is second to none, but the movie is useless without Anya Taylor-Joy. She is sensational as the fiery heroine.
Furiosa is indeed big and it’s loud and it’s epic as hell … but it’s also (no I really don’t want to type this either!) a bit of a let-down. In its best moments, there’s a The Road-meets-Road Runner energy to this film that will leave no one who loved Fury Road feeling short-changed. However, those are few and distant enough that you might get bored waiting for them.
Should You Watch It?
Despite the stunning cinematography, nuanced performances, and breath-taking action sequences, the movie is often incredibly dry. The film truly shines in its well-executed moments, but those are far and few for a Mad Max Saga.
