God Forbid is shocking, but also not. As someone who had no idea, it was a great documentary to watch. But it also solidified my opinion on fake extreme Christianity.
The Hulu and Disney+ documentary covers a high-profile affair involving a pool attendant and the now infamous evangelical couple Becki Falwell and Jerry Falwell Jr. The show links back to Trump and his previous (and current) legal problems. It’s shocking and not at the same time.
Director Billy Corben doesn’t shy away from the salacious but also is keen to connect Falwell Jr.’s corruption to the rise of Donald Trump. In fact, the documentary earns points for not overplaying its hand: telling the story in a concise package while still connecting the central scandal to the political tides with which it became inextricably linked.
One of the best, and most juicy, documentaries I’ve seen in a while.
Damning to say the least, I felt really bad for Giancarlo Granda. I remember being twenty and having no idea what the world is. All the juicy details aside, he has my full support (not that it matters), forever.
Should You Watch It?
It’s like Wall Street meets The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Capitalism meets religion with a side of sexual kinks. God Forbid: The Sex Scandal that Brought Down a Dynasty is terrifying, compelling, and revealing.
Where Can I Watch It?
