Nobody [2021]

Nobody - Movie

Nobody was a surprise. I really wasn’t expecting to enjoy it, yet I did. A lot!

The movie doesn’t break any new ground for the genre, but this viscerally violent thriller smashes, shatters, and destroys plenty of other things. Bloody, crowd-pleasing, brutal, and fun, it is a surprisingly great action movie.

When you make a movie that is basically John Wick meets The Equalizer, you have to pay attention to certain things. Thankfully, director Ilya Naishuller and writer Derek Kolstad certainly did. In addition, the fight sequences and stunt choreography are first class, as is the slyly calibrated performance of Bob Odenkirk as Hutch.

Odenkirk plays Hutch, a docile family man slowly reveals his true character after his house gets burgled by two petty thieves. Coincidentally, it leads him into a bloody war with a Russian crime boss.

In a world full of tough talkers who boast what they’d do if given half a chance, Nobody is a refreshing reminder that what you don’t know is reason enough to probably leave someone alone. Plus, Odenkirk easily proves that he has what it takes to be an action star.
