The Creator is one of those movies that will surprise you positively. The trailers don’t even come close to doing it justice.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, this movie asks a lot of philosophical questions, and gives us, the viewers, the answers without looking like its preaching us.
Yes, the movie is visually stunning, and some story could have benefited from some tidying up, but all of that doesn’t matter when you actually think of it. The Creator is a thought-provoking sci-fi journey that’ll tantalize the imagination. It is an intellectually stimulating film that really challenges audiences to wrestle with profound questions.
Questions about our place in the universe, love, the current AI doom-and-gloom, politics, and more. Yes, It only skims the surface of the ideological quandaries it begins to set up re: what is life / intelligence. But that’s also the charm of it. We’re introduced to those questions in a very subtle way, and it’s left to us, the audience, to take what we want out of it.
The only thing that I really didn’t like is the framing of “US invades vietnam” yet again. Can we get over that please and thank you?!
