The Royal Treatment should have never happened regardless of how you do the math. And it has nothing to do with its stars Laura Marano & Mena Massoud.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good romantic comedy, even when it’s heavily relying on clichés. But The Royal Treatment is just not that.
Direction is a bit clunky; the story is nowhere near good; the movie fails at its core by trying to take all the cheesy storylines from romantic comedies and pumping it to 3000. However, its two co-stars try their best to make do. Mena Massoud is adorable, even when he’s obviously feeling awkward about his character. And Laura Marano is just natural at this!
To be honest, fans of the genre may enjoy it, but the film is tonally messy and filled with fluff. Like a drug store chocolate bar, it just is. It might not be good, but it’ll go down shockingly easily, give you a minor sugar high (and possible headache) and disappear from your memory just as quickly.
Should you watch it?
Sadly, The Royal Treatment treatment’s here is cheesy, bland, romantic comedy 101. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s a bad movie. I would watch it just to see Mena and Laura do their thing, even when everything is playing against them.
Where can I watch it?
You can stream The Royal Treatment exclusively on Netflix.
