tick, tick…BOOM! quickly became one of my favorite movies of all time thanks to the amazing talents and the charisma of Andrew Garfield and the direction of Lin-Manuel Miranda.
So, when are we giving Andrew Garfield an EGOT? Just asking because by playing Jonathan Larson, he just proved that he’s one of the most talented actors in our generation, and one of the most under-utilized ones. Plus, it certainly helped that tick, tick… BOOM! is a tear-jerking treasure for fans of musical theater. The movie makes musical magic out of a story focused on the creative process. It’s an impressive feat for debuting director Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Get ready to laugh, dance and cry within the span of two minutes. Garfield blurs the lines between acting and reality, singing and living the character. He does a marvelous job bringing to life a man who died too soon. He nails the true essence of what being a creative type is all about. From the frenetic bursts of enthusiasm to the obsessive pursuit of perfection, Andrew Garfield hits all the right notes.
Even if you’re not a musical theatre fan, movie geeks will appreciate and enjoy the performances put together. And that’s what makes this something special. But it’s not just Garfield.
Supported by an amazing cast of actors and Broadway people, Miranda digs deep into how the AIDS crisis affected the arts in the early 1990s via Michael (Robin de Jesus). He also navigates relationships and careers with Susan, Larson’s love interest played by Alexandra Shipp.
The movie is simply perfect! From beginning to end. ZERO comments. 2021 is proving to be a good year for Andrew Garfield. From Spider-Man: No Way Home to tick, tick…BOOM! . Keep it up Mr!
