Transformers: Rise of the Beasts surprised me. Avengers meets Indiana Jones, the movie is probably the first of the franchise that I didn’t hate.
Don’t get me wrong. At this point in time, the whole Transformers franchise and its timeline confuses the heck out of me. But there’s something about this one that I enjoyed. Starring Anthony Ramos as Noah Diaz, the newest (but not really) human to encounter the robots, the movie has a lot of good action in it, and some heart.
Finally, after too many boring movies, the franchise isn’t afraid to take chances. Rise of the Beasts redials the overall narrative and visuals of this Hasbro franchise into pure nostalgic escapism that sets the Transformers back on track.
Yes, the fact that this movie is technically a prequel which events we never heard about or got mentioned totally undermines it. However, after five or six soul sucking movies, this seventh installment feels more like a soft reboot. Director Steven Caple Jr. returns some pride to the Hasbro warriors. He does that by keeping the focus on the robots, and not the humans, even when the stakes are high for both.
Should You Watch It?
A soft reboot with enough action for several movies and a load of heart to keep the story relevant. If you’re a fan, this is a must watch. If you’re not, you can easily enjoy the action.
Where Can I Watch It?
