Death and Other Details - Season One [2024] on Hulu / Disney Plus

Death and Other Details was surprisingly good. Some parts needed some work, but everything else was great.

This show wasn’t on my watchlist until my Google TV slammed it in front of my face. I needed a crime series, and this show delivers. From the ease of storytelling to the amazing set and costume design, I couldn’t wait to find the murderer, and I honestly didn’t expect it.

Starring Violett Beane, Lauren Patten and Mandy Patinkin, the show starts as Death On The Nile meets The White Lotus. However, the storytelling voiced by Patinkin as well as Beane’s charisma makes the show one of the easiest and most bingeable to watch. Plus, it helps when the murderer is a mystery until the end.

A bunch of rich people go on vacation on a cruise across the Italian shore, and they end up getting killed one after the other. Sound familiar? Yes, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but in this case, it’s all about the execution. On this ship of drink, dalliances, and death, the mystery never wavers.

However, for murder mystery aficionados, the patience needed to keep following this plot is not a problem. For the casually intrigued viewer, “Death and Other Details” is nice to look at for a while as one admires the craft of the producers and actors. But it’s cluttered. The show has a few twists too many, but it’s a pleasant and surprisingly digestible watch despite some formally complicated flashbacks and an enormous cast.

As for the cast, and to be honest, some actors were just too stiff. Maybe it’s their first time, maybe not, a potential second season would benefit from some cast changes.

Should You Watch It?

A nice combo platter of The White Lotus paired with a Knives Out mystery and a Succession chaser. Very pleasant to watch, and easily digestable.
