God’s Favorite Idiot is an unforced pro-God story floating on a host of congenially goofball performances.
However, we’ve seen it before, and from the same two stars. It’s like they didn’t even try. I’m baffled why Netflix would even greenlight something like this.
A midlevel tech support employee finds love at the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God in a low level comedy that managed to downcycle every single shtick Melissa McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone have ever attempted to even try.
In fact, it is a series with no distinctive qualities, no personality, no purpose, and it’s screaming, “No reason to watch. Everything about this series is jaw-droppingly slack and unambitious, given the talent involved.
And even when the show tries to be good, McCarthy crashes it. God’s Favorite Idiot feels too casual for its own good.
Should you watch it?
Yes, the series is light with some comedy, but we’ve seen it all before from both as well as the supporting actors. After watching it, it’s obvious that McCarthy and Falcone need to learn something new. It worked for them for a while, and it might still be working. But the light at the end of the tunnel is shining much more.
Where can I watch it?
You can stream God’s Favorite Idiot exclusively on Netflix everywhere.
