Halo – Season Two [2024] on Paramount Plus

Halo - Paramount+ Canada February 2024

Halo streamlined second season is a leaner and meaner dose of sci-fi that comes closer to realizing the property’s potential. But not quite.

After all the introductions and heavy lifting of the first season, I expected a more focused sci-fi show. And we got that. However, I can’t shake the feeling that the second season’s budget got cut and reworked halfway through production. It just feels imbalanced. Let me explain.

Fans of the game might say that the second season went off script. And I can understand why.

In an effort to underline the badness of humanity, and focus the show’s storytelling, Halo has completely sidelined the Covenant. Whatever we spent the first season setting up got thrown off in the first 2 episodes. Instead, we spend most of the second season setting up multiple subplots that lose the viewer’s focus. Instead of watching Master Chief doing his thing, we spend two episodes doing nothing, and 2 episodes setting up a potential third season. And the whole second season is 8 episodes. Get it?

And yet, and I’m not just saying this as a fan of the franchise, but as a mere spectator, the solid foundations are still there, and I’m interested in seeing if they build that giant halo on top or not. Hopefully, any potential Season 3 can continue to improve rather than reminding the audience of the series’ existing flaws. At least Season 2 is taking steps in the right direction.

Should You Watch It?

The show feels like it’s taken out its own emotion blockers, and is learning how to feel for the first time. It still lacks some refining, but it’s getting there.

Where Can I Watch It?

You can stream both seasons of Halo exclusively on Paramount+.
