Loot on AppleTV+ is a loot! Right when you don’t expect it, the show makes you fall in love with it and its lead, Maya Rudolph.
In fact, it’s not just Rudolph. The show’s good heart and clever wit lies in the ensemble playing of the team around her. Michaela Jaé (MJ) Rodriguez plays Sofia, Rudolph’s foundation manager. And it’s always a blessing seeing Rodriguez on screen. In addition, Rudolph’s gay BFF is played by non-other than Joel Kim Booster. The trio manages to pull the show together and deliver a great comedy that touches on multiple social issues: From poverty to homlesness and how pointless and entitled billionaires are.
Plus, Loot has a ton of charms and laugh-out-loud moments guaranteed to make it a comforting sitcom binge. However, the quirky funny episodic format may not appeal to everyone, and that’s OKAY! But if you are a fan of situational comedy and Maya Rudolph, Ron Funches, and MJ Rodriguez, then the show is one to catch.
Ultimately, the show is a very watchable, and funny-enough sitcom. But I just want a Maya Rudolph series to really make its star a tour de force. And sadly, this is not the one. Let’s wait for the second season and see if they’ll fix that.
Should you watch it?
Loot is refreshing and fun. Yes, it does meander into being preachy at times, but it is forgivable. Overall, it’s entertaining and a good laugh.
