After releasing part one of Lupin earlier this year, Netflix finally release the second part. However, Lupin – Season 1 – Part 2 feels like a completely different show instead of enhancing what made the first half great.
Let’s be honest, the only reason for Netflix to release the show in two parts instead of one full season is the pandemic. However, by leaving us with a major cliffhanger, this second part felt like a completely different show.
The first part of Lupin is 100% a french heist series. The second part? not so much. Instead, we get what’s obviously a revenge-oriented show with even more unrealistic twists and turns and an abuse of the “flashbacks as storytelling”. The storytelling method that made the first part shocking and great at the same time.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a great show. Plus, Omar Sy is as great if not better. His charisma is what holds the whole show together. However, two other characters shine way more in this part. Guedira’s Soufiane Guerrab and Benjamin Ferel’s Antoine Gouy. Both of them steal the show even when Sy is the center of attention.
As for the plot, the finer details do not always add up… But everything else is so engaging that it is hard to get too hung up on that. The story kicked off in the first part is technically wrapped up in this part with an almost perfect conclusion. However, Netflix already announced a Part 3. I just hope it won’t be forced just for the sake of fan servicing.
Should you watch it?
Smart, sexy, and stylish, the second part/season of Lupin is highly bingeable and a great summer viewing. However, don’t expect it to be as great as the first part/season.
Where can I watch it?
You can stream both parts of Lupin exclusively on Netflix.
