Secret Invasion starts okay, but it’s definitely not the comics version, or anything close to what the fans would ever want, me included.
Starring Samuel L. Jackson as the one and only Nick Fury, the show takes some easter eggs from Captain Marvel and goes crazy with it. Lots of talking, not enough showing, the show’s name is what would sell anyone on watching it. That and Olivia Colman.
In fact, the show has almost nothing to do with its comic book inspirations. Other than exposing the presence of Skrulls on earth, the show takes enough creative “liberties” that it should have been named anything else. Minor revelations, and even smaller scale warfare, the show lacks intrigue and pacing. The saved most of the budget for less than three minutes of fighting in the last episode.
Way before it reveals something, it was either too obvious to miss, or it was already show in the multiple trailers and promo videos.
However, one of the few shining lights is Colman as Sonya Falsworth. She stole every scene she’s ever in, even when her character is not the main one. Colman looked like she really enjoyed playing a spy in the MCU that enjoys torturing villains, and I’m here for it.
Should you watch it?
Marvel needs to rethink its Disney+ strategy. The show needed double the budget with half the time to tell the same story in a much developed and better way. I don’t think it’s a must watch, but Olivia Colman is a delight.
Where can I watch it?
You can stream Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion exclusively on Disney Plus.
