The second and final season of Minx delivers the comedy but lacks spectacle. Yes, I was left satisfied, but I wanted more.
Minx‘s second season is smart, sexy, and fun. Even when the writers lose their focus by forgetting what made the first season perfect, the show’s stars and art direction kept me locked in. Naked men also helped.
On the plus side, all the stylistic flourishes take a back seat to the characters, who we enjoy watching get consumed by their dreams and ambitions, which only grow larger when momentous results start happening.
On the other side, there’s a consistent lack of the rowdy chuckles that helped Minx’s first season fly by. Plus, the faux-celebrity cameos get really exhausting after the third one. But I’ve seen worse. Remember Welcome to Chippendales?
All of that aside, it’s obvious that the troubled production affected the end product. Even though Lionsgate saved this season from the shoping block, the show deserved better. Yes, the second season is good, but it’s definitely not as good as the great first outing.
Should You Watch It?
Like its predecessor, Season 2 of Minx remains an entertaining examination of feminism and sexuality in the ’70s. Sadly, there’s no third outing.
Where Can I Watch It?
You can stream Minx exclusively on Crave in Canada.
