Reacher – Season One [2022]

Reacher - Amazon Originals

Reacher, the series, successfully reboots the movie. Based on a series of books, Amazon’s take is obviously slower and building a new franchise.

Frankly, I hate the Reacher movie starring Tom Cruise, mainly because I don’t think that Cruise is a great actor. As a result, I was skeptical. But the Amazon’s reboot is better.

Starring Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher, or just Reacher, this adaptation is apparently way closer to the books. (Side note, I’ve never ready them). However, the season is a fun ride filled with decent action scenes, a lot of killing, and a lot of Ritchson’s abs.

As much as I liked this season, and I want to see more, we need to discuss some things. In general, the show needs some tweaking. The story is great, but the pacing was off. Way off. Plus, most people will be watching it to see shirtless Ritchson and they will certainly miss his acting. Or the lack of it. Yes, his character should be mysterious with a lot of baggage, but his interpretation felt flat for most of the show. Except when he’s around Roscoe (Willa Fitzgerald) or teasing Finlay (Malcolm Goodwin). As much as I loved Fitzgerald’s Roscoe, I hated Finlay. Goodwin was trying to be mysterious and a cop who’s by the book, but he sadly missed the mark for me.

Should you watch it?

Reacher tries to lay the groundwork with its first season for a potentially long franchise. However, the main cast lacks chemistry and familiarity enough to hinder the viewers from connecting with them.

Where can I watch it?

You can stream Reacher exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
