Lower Decks does it again. What starts as a weird season ends up with perfect Star Trek. Gimme more Paramount+.
After the cross-over earlier this year with Strange New Worlds, the hype was full on for season 4 of Star Trek: Lower Decks. And ten episodes later, it was justified.
Instead of just delivering more of the same, Lower Decks Season 4 takes even bigger creative swings with its story and characters and fortunately, connects more often than not. This show continues to unabashedly stan all things Trek while giving its own crew plenty of growth.
In fact, this season sees the characters (and the show) grow as they receive their junior-grade Lieutenant promotions. There’s still winking homage to previous Treks (all of them). But where prior seasons saw a lot of homage Easter eggs, in Season 4, the homage is the plot. Lower Decks never asks you to get weepy about Star Trek’s past, only to laugh at it. The emotional investment is entirely focused on the future, on the Cerritos and her crew.
Lower Decks continues to be Trek at its best.
