The Continental might be From the World of John Wick, but it rarely felt like it. A 3-part limited series running for over 5 hours with far and few links back to the main franchise other than the hotel itself.
Starring Mel Gibson as Cormac and Colin Woodell as Winston Scott, the show is supposed to be a prequel to the amazing franchise that is John Wick.
However, almost everything we love about the franchise is nowhere to be seen here. Yes, we have great gun fights, twists, and turns, but they’re extremely far and few that I dosed off a bit. Especially in the second episode. Most of the interesting parts of this show happen in the final episode. That’s when you feel like you’re in the “World of John Wick”. In the first two episodes, you feel like in a very well-produced New York Italian mafia movie that is extremely slow.
Instead of amazing and huge set designs, we got dark rooms and empty sets. Instead of fast paced action, we got five minutes of action in each of the first 2 “episodes”. To be honest, the first two parts made it difficult to justify continuing the show.
However, the show is saved thanks to the last episode. A true, yet slightly slow, John Wick movie. Action, twists, guns, and total craziness. Loved it. I just wish that the first 2 episodes were the same.
Should You Watch It?
Imbalanced and slow. If you’re a fan of John Wick, suffer through the first 2 episodes and you’ll be rewarded in the third and final one.
Where Can I Watch It?
You can stream The Continental: From the World of John Wick exclusively on Peacock in USA and on Prime Video everywhere else.
