Season five of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale proves that the show is way pass its intended life. A pointless ten episodes long story that could have been done in two.
Frankly, I was a huge fan of the show during the early season. Especially season one. But starting halfway through the second one, the show lost its magic. Instead of the natural storytelling of the tyranny that is Gilead, we got forced story lines, illogical character developments, and twists and turns that make you want to throw away your tv. Even a telenovela writer wouldn’t write this bad.
As for the newest installment, it’s no different. Centered about the trio June (Elisabeth Moss), Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), and Janine (Madeline Brewer), the storyline crosses the line from forced into straightforward ridiculous.
For most of the season, the characters are living their own separate lives. June & Serena cross paths a lot. But not in any natural way. Janine’s storyline makes zero sense….Even with the surprise tie in at the end of the season.
All-in-all, this show should have been cancelled after the third season. And that would have been a little too late.
Should you watch it?
The show has lost its charm a couple of seasons ago. But it got worse in this one. The season breaks pattern and goes full-on vengeance. And not in a convincing way.
Where can I watch it?
You can stream all seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale exclusively on Hulu in USA and on Crave & Prime Video in Canada.
