The Kominsky Method managed to keep some trying to wrap up the show with Season three. However, Alan Arkin’s departure left some things feeling off.
Standing at slightly shorter than previous seasons, it was obvious that we’re trying to wrap things up. Killing Norman Newlander (Alan Arkin’s character) was a given due to circumstances, but I definitely missed Norman’s and Sandy’s (Michael Douglas) banter. It was the essence of the first two seasons and heavily missed here.
However, Michael Douglas manages to carry the whole season (and series) to a great finale. With the help of some amazing guest stars (Morgan Freeman was a true surprise!) and new characters (Kathleen Turner), The Kominsky Method proves once again that it’s a genius show. Thankfully, Douglas’ character managed to make his life dream true, even if he loses a LOT of close friends on the way there.
None of the main actors is waiting for me to praise their acting (MORGAN freaking FREEMAN, MICHAEL DOUGLAS, ALAN ARKIN!), so I’m not going to even try. However, I was surprised by Mindy’s character arc in this season, and Sarah Baker managed to deliver!
Sadly, all wonderful things end. I was really surprised when Netflix cancelled the show, but I get it. The audience needs a variety, and this show is packed with amazing actors and a simple story. However, I would have loved to see more. Here’s to hoping for a movie or something like that.
Should you watch it?
Yes! Yes! Yes! I would watch anything starring Michael Douglas and Alan Arkins. Even if season three is not the greatest, it’s still a great and easy (however short) watch.
Where can I watch it?
You can stream all three seasons The Kominsky Method exclusively on Netflix.
