Wedding Season – Season One [2022]

Wedding Season

Hulu’s Wedding Season is an off-beat british comedy with enough twists and turns to keep you interested long enough to watch and pretend to be shocked.

Even though Wedding season presents itself as a romantic dramady, it’s not. It’s a hybrid of a british romantic comedy, and an American dramady. However, it was a bit of a mismatch of genres that lead to real dissonance. Halfway through and especially in the end, the show got a little darker than I’d hoped.

In fact, the show is trying to climb an invisible hill in today’s crowded streaming market. It is an ambitious undertaking that might fail at what it’s trying to do but remains entertaining enough. You need a show that clearly distinguishes itself with a sturdy base to even be noticed now. And this is not the case for this one. However, it’s still an entertaining show that I binge-watched, and I’d certainly be interested in watching a second season.

Kudos to Gavin Drea for successfully portraying one of the most desperate bachelors I’ve ever seen, and to Rosa Salazar who managed to keep me interested even when her character, Katie, felt like an annoying rehashing of almost every single character played by Aubrey Plaza.

Should you watch it?

The show is a pitch black rom-com with some darker elements, coming together through some left-field plot twists. As far as rom coms go, this is as fresh and interesting as it gets.

Where can I watch it?

You can stream Wedding Season exclusively on Hulu in USA and on Disney+ everywhere else.
