Season three of YOU brings back the psycho couple Joe Goldberg & Love Quinn after announcing a pregnancy. However, the newest chapter of this story lacks the grit that made the first two special.
Taking the thrilling saga to the suburbs should have resulted in superb results. Sadly, this season couldn’t have been saved even with Penn Badgley and Victoria Pedretti‘s committed performances.
To be honest, changing locations and adding Pedretti as an equal co-star refreshed the series into a new dynamic full of twists and bloody surprises. However, it gets tiring and repetitive a bit too fast. Right from the first episode, we get into jealous killing and mind games. Once second, we’re routing for Joe, the other, we’re routing for Love. Both equally mentally deranged.
Frankly, I could watch these two attempt to out-gaslight, gatekeep, and boss each other for another ten episodes. However, the storytelling needs to be rethought as well as the pacing. Maybe the show needs a new showrunner? I don’t know, I’m not the expert here, but Netflix needs to intervene for a refresh especially after the way this season ended with a major reset and cliffhanger at the same time.
Should you watch it?
The third season stays true to the expectations it has set in the previous two. However, it moves at an annoying pace with the same shenanigans that get old pretty fast.
Where can I watch it?
You can stream all seasons of YOU exclusively on Netflix.
