Film: Anaconda [2025] – Jack Black, Paul Rudd

Anaconda [2025] - Jack Black, Paul Rudd

This Anaconda boasts more star power than all the Anacondas put together, but noticeably fewer laughs, what could have been a fresh take on familiar material ends up a regurgitated mess.

Starring Jack Black, and Paul Rudd, this iteration is supposed to be an original comedy about rebooting the original movie of the same name.

Sadly? The original might have been more interesting and funnier than this one. Thing is, the actual snake, or franchise, could have been included in the conversation. Instead, the film ends up being too much like a big studio poking fun at itself while doing the exact thing it attempts to make light of.

Don’t get me wrong, the actors are all clearly having fun. Black and Rudd look like they had the time of their life, and Thandiwe Newton does a great job. However, the whole thing just doesn’t work. A studio film about an indie studio trying to reboot a franchise, and it goes terribly wrong for everyone, but also in a good way? Who the heck thought that this movie might work?

I seriously thought this could be a good time…and I was WRONG! All in all, Anaconda is a forgettable meta comedy that lacks bite. The cast brings plenty of energy to it, but the film often takes the easiest routes imaginable.

Should you watch it?

This film proves that Sony Pictures is not able to do good live action films or remakes anymore. Some scenes are funny, but the whole thing is just below average.

Where can I watch it?

Anaconda is now playing in theaters.
