Project Hail Mary [2026] - Ryan Gosling, Milana Vayntrub, James Ortiz

Project Hail Mary understands exactly what makes its source material work and delivers it perfectly with confidence. Thrilling, heartfelt, and hilarious.

Starring Ryan Gosling & James Ortiz, the film sets a new course for its directors with a smart, funny and above all heartfelt film that truly is, to borrow a painfully overused phrase, out of this world.

Yes, it’s an “end of the world” film that is not necessarily about it. The movie uses that premise to explore a buddy adventure between a human and an alien. And to be honest, Gosling excels at this role. His wise cracking across the other side of the universe with a sentient rock spider is super-fun.

Yes, everyone is tired of dual timelines, but the way this film does it feels special. While the present is Gosling in a different galaxy, directors Lord & Miller use the flashbacks to fill in the gaps of the story, while Gosling slowly accepts his fate, and develops his story with the alien. He’s a human that found it difficult to connect with other humans, and finds that connection with an alien.

All in all, the 2.5 hours are entertaining mush, but it’s a waste of strangeness and epic scale.
