Fuze confirms that the British thriller genre continues to find ways to reinvent the formula. Nothing special here, but totally enjoyable.
British films are not known for spectacle. And FUZE is no different. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elham Ehsas, and Theo James, this David Mackenzie film is a heist film that’s as entertaining as it is predictable, crafted, admittedly, with enough skill to maintain tension until the end and featuring a cast full of familiar faces
The tension is there. It’s just not where or how you expect it. The twists and turns keep the viewer interested and entertained, and definitely not expected, even when the investigation starts unveiling the heist, and clearly putting it out. You just won’t know who’s responsible for what, until the last 13 minutes. And that’s a rare and good thing.
One comment, Fuze might suffer from ‘over production’. Let me explain. All production is a production. But when something is designed to run like a clockwork without any room to breathe, it feels overproduced. That’s FUZE.
Ultimately, the film settles into a gripping heist thriller built on precision and propulsion, even as the strain in its clockwork construction makes the limits of its pulpier ambitions impossible to ignore.
Should You Watch It?
Before the last 10 minutes, this is one of the better action thrillers I’ve seen in a while. In the last part, it feels like a weird SNL sketch. It’s all about the journey, not the destination, right?
Where Can I Watch It?
