Film: You’re Cordially Invited [2025] – Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon on Prime Video

You’re Cordially Invited - Prime Video Canada January 2025

You’re Cordially Invited should cancel its invitation. The cinematic equivalent of settling for someone you don’t want.

Starring Will Ferrell & Reese Witherspoon, the movie is pitched as a romantic comedy about a wedding that goes wrong. Most of the ingredients for this movie are there to be great. Sadly, everything about it goes wrong.

Even before the opening credits roll, a huge, sloppy serving of silliness previews a numbing taste of what’s. Yes, the story is goofy—it’s a comedy. But even the good slapstick bits are stretched too thin. From Ferrell’s comedy gags to Witherspoon’s serious tone, it got tiresome pretty fast.

You’re Cordially Invited is less an actual movie than something familiar processed in a way that is vaguely pleasing, with Witherspoon and Ferrell both doing watered-down variations on characters they created in other films. This is not just forgettable — it’s a letdown for both its leads and the comedy genre as a whole. An exceptionally cringy comedy that offers more first-degree embarrassment than actual laughs.

When Prime proposes this one as your next watch, perhaps think twice before saying “I do.”

Should you watch it?

For most of its run time, which is already longer than it should have been, the film offers some enjoyable moments and a fun clash of wills with Witherspoon and Ferrell. Yes, the setup has potential. But that potential very quickly dissolves into scattered matrimonial mishaps.
