Disney’s Zootopia 2 keeps its franchise humor, while daring to ask harder questions about who we trust – and why.

Starring Ginnifer Goodwin & Jason Bateman, fan favorite Ke Huy Quan joins this sequel to expand the universe and bring equality to all-most all animals.

In fact, just as in Zootopia, the world-building and neat details are incredible. Expanding into the reptile world and the swamps gives the filmmakers room to build upon the rich world of the original movie. I can easily see a theme park based on it very soon.

Yes, the sequel is just as charming and arguably funnier than its predecessor. But not as good. Something is lost in this one, and replaced by clear Disney brand integration, and a slightly more pertinent message, even it’s the same one form the first film, slightly rebranded.

My only comment? Watching it at home, the film is just relentless. Did I enjoy watching it? Definitely. But, I came out of it feeling not like “It was really pleasant to be back with all those characters”… I felt like I had just come out of a swim workout, wanting to just sit down somewhere for quiet.

However, branding & intensity aside, I really enjoyed this Zootopia sequel. Certainly, way more than its Disney Plus shorts (Zootopia+). Yes, the film stretches animal puns and socially aware allegories to fuzzy extremes, but it’s all good and in pursuit of its well-intentioned, mostly earned ‘Teamwork makes the dream work’ payoff.

Should You Watch It?

Fun, self-referencing, but also a clear part of the “Disney Machine”. I’d watch it again, but it’s definitely not Frozen.

Where Can I Watch It?

You can stream Zootopia 2 on Disney+ everywhere.
