His & Hers is a show I didn’t know that I needed to watch, until I did. Thompson and Bernthal deliver great and underrated performances.
Starring Tessa Thompson & Jon Bernthal, this Netflix show is ultimately about love. Yes, it’s a thriller with lots of crimes, but the ultimate question is: What would you do for the ones you love?
The miniseries knows exactly how to hook you from the very beginning with small doses of information and revelations. Yes, some might argue that the twists often struggle to find grounded approaches to the big moments unraveling, but the sincerity with which our leads play their parts keeps it entertaining.
Like. I believed straight from the beginning that Thompson is a struggling but smart news anchor, and that Bernthal is an investigator who might actually be doing the crimes. Bernthal is a charismatic, assertive actor — a jangle of nerve endings — and together with the elegantly intense Thompson, he carries a story that keeps threatening to collapse into parody. Thankfully, it never does.
All in all, this is a dark and tense show that thrives thanks to its efficient pacing and lack of wandering arcs. The characters are sketchy and maddening, with just enough charisma to create the needed doubt to carry the intrigue further.
Should you watch it?
Fast paced thriller that leaves you hanging all the way through, for a good reason. Not over the top, with a satisfying delivery.
