Spider-Noir – Season One [2026] on Prime Video

Spider-Noir - Prime Video Canada May 2026

Spider-Noir is not a Marvel project, and it shows. Nicholas Cage finally stars his own series, and it’s good. Predictable but good.

As the title hints, the show is a new take on the Marvel here. What if Peter Parker was born in the early 1930s New York. This Spiderman variant initially shows up in the Spider-Verse animated franchise. However, since Sony can’t use the name in non-MCU projects, the name was changed to Ben Reilly/The Spider.

Now that it’s out of the way, let’s discuss the show itself. The story is compelling and textured, and it gives you action and mystery while being easy to follow. Nicolas Cage is charming, heartbreaking, and funny in this role, which endears Ben Reilly to you and makes you want to root for him.

I was really glad when the show used the story of a PI having depression, and hating his powers and responsibilities, as the core driving motivation for the show, instead of the regular “He’s the superhero and needs to save everyone”.

As the more of the mystery was revealed, the more I enjoyed it. By the end, I was ready for another season. It’s quite a bit like the unjustly cancelled HBO reboot of Perry Mason from a few years ago, but what it would be like if that run down version of a human being just so happened to posses superpowers.

However, I really didn’t like replaying the same beats from other Spider-Man films, mainly the original trilogy from Sam-Raimy, almost fame to frame. On the other hand, I have to admit that the B&W tones down the almost-sinister-six power set. They shine way better in color.

My advice? Watch it in Black & White, not color, and pump the music up. Li Jun Li is perfect as Cat Hardy, a variant of Black Cat. And her vocals and songs are magical. I was mesmerized and added her interpretations to my Spotify Playlist.
