The Family Plan 2 [2025] – Michelle Monaghan, Mark Wahlberg on Apple TV

The Family Plan 2 is a drop in quality compared to the first. Instead of King’s Man comedy, we get a cheap Hallmark movie.

Starring Mark WahlbergMichelle Monaghan, this sequel barely makes the grade as escapism, but wash it down with holiday cheer, put your brain on low power, let forgiveness into your heart and it’s – sound the trumpets – passable.

While Wahlberg and the mostly loveable cast return for a ho-hum action-comedy sequel. The actors are doing their best, and the children are amazing, but the premise and production feel very forced. In fact, the whole movie feels like Home Alone made by Hallmark for Christmas.

On the plus side, this sequel can be considered an improvement on the original, locating a better villain to help create a modicum of screen tension. However, while the villain’s motivation is actually better than the original movie, Kit Harington is the wrong choice here. He’s either mis-cast, or he took all the wrong decisions for his interpretation. Harington’s villain was too comically bad. Like a disaster. While Wahlberg can be believed as the ex-bad guy turned dad, Harington feels like a cartoon version of a Bond villain.

All in all, despite some scattered laughs and a few thrills, the film follows a predictable formula, employing a lively pace to cover for the extremely thin script. While Apple TV series are usually great, this film proves, once again, that the streaming platform needs an overhaul for their movies department.

Should You Watch It?

It was hard to look at anything that was going on in there. The film is barely competent, and it’s almost saved thanks to good performances by its younger actors.

Where Can I Watch It?
