Hotel Costiera is not worth its 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. All the ingredients are there, but the outcome is just bland and a bit boring.
To be honest, if it wasn’t for the Italian background and locations, I would have ditched this show from the first episode. Something is just off about the whole thing.
Starring Jesse Williams, Jordan Alexandra, and a very talented Italian and European cast, the show’s plot is mysterious and attractive. A handsome ex-marine goes back to Italy to work as a fixer at a fancy hotel.
To be honest, this is where all the fun and interest ends. The premise, which feels something like The White Lotus meets Taken, feels like it had genuine potential to be breezy and diverting entertainment, but it falls disappointingly flat in nearly every possible way.
The twists are functional, expected, and if anything, spelled out to the audience like we’re 12. The forced humor lessens the suspense, and the result is a visually appealing but low-stakes drama, designed more to accompany than to engage.
Do I want a second season? Not in its current form.
Should You Watch It?
The show is so lightweight as to threaten to float off entirely into the ether. But at a moment when many people are in a perpetual state of gloominess, it’s a welcome addition that needs a lot of work if it wants to stick around.
