Film: Another Simple Favor [2025] – Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick on Prime Video

Another Simple Favor is a fun thriller with expected twists and a lot of comedy. The movie makes up its lack of plot with it’s shooting location: Capri, Italy.

Anna Kendrick & Blake Lively are back to taunt each other in this comedy thriller. This gloriously silly sequel about murder and wealth porn highlights the inviolable and effervescent chemistry of Lively and Kendrick. Side note, Lively needed this movie after the drama of her previous movie.

However, it’s not all great. Even though the cast and locations are great, the story isn’t. While the first movie had an interesting and unexpected premise that only got revealed in the third act, Another Simple Favor reveals its secrets within the first 10 minutes.

In fact, the switch from parodying cosy domesticity in the first film to a broader crime caper initially feels awkward, but ultimately works, thanks to the calibre of the performances, including the introduction of Allison Janney as Emily’s oddball aunt. It’s just the writing is off. Like a lot. The first act feels a lot like the first movie. The second act felt like a mashup of various Scooby-Doo plots. And the third act is pure fantasy. Thankfully, the actresses and the comedy are enough to recommend the film nevertheless.

Want a summary of the movie? Lunacy rules! And it is doused in expensive bottles of champagne, boats, parties, and jewelry that is probably a mortgage down payment. Even if you’re extremely confused, at least the beachfront view is beautiful.

Should You Watch It?

Kendrick and Lively put on an honourable show, but can’t disguise a certain fatigue at carrying a narrative that barely rises above a creaky mashed-up show.
