Love Hurts is not meant to be the best Valentine’s movie out there. Yet, I still feel bad for its 2 main actors.
Starring Ke Huy Quan & Ariana DeBose, Love Hurts is an action comedy that feels made in the late 1990s, and released in 2025. Nothing is wrong with that, except that it feels like an afterthought.
While Quan shines in his scenes, DeBose’s presence feels like a block of cement that’s dragging the whole movie down. If you’ve ever seen an interview with Quan, you know that he is a very likable person, and that personality fits Marvin to a tee. However, I’m surprised by DeBose’s performance. For someone who won an Oscar recently, she needs to fire her team. From Kraven to this one, she’s either very unlucky, or intentionally sabotaging her career.
Like Marvin (Quan), I choose to look at the bright side, and the movie does offer enough to celebrate: effective fights, fun and campy characters, and Quan in the limelight. It’s a decent enough stunt showcase with a good four or five fight sequences worth your 90 minutes. It’s just not much more than that
Should You Watch It?
Ke Huy Quan is fine; the movie isn’t. Did I enjoy it? Barely, just the action scenes and Quan himself. Would I watch it again? nope.
Where Can I Watch It?
You can stream Love Hurts on Prime Video.
