Film: Maintenance Required [2025] – Madelaine Petsch, Jacob Scipio

Maintenance Required on Prime Video requires an overhaul. Especially when the actors doing the side characters are better than your primary ones.

Starring Madelaine Petsch & Jacob Scipio, this film presents itself as a cute romantic comedy set around California. And it is, if you can get over the painful pacing and lack of chemistry between Petsch and Scipio.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a romantic comedy. The genre has basically a tried-and-true playbook at this point. And this film is no exception, expect that it’s painfully slow, clearly on the cheaper side, and its side characters have more chemistry, and sometimes acting skills, than its main ones.

Katy O’Brian, Madison Bailey and Matteo Lane. Each one of them has more on-screen charisma, and is more convincing in their role, than Petsch and Scipio combined. Especially Scipio and his Ray-Ban glasses. Was he sponsored? We’ll never know.

All in all, Maintenance Required is certainly not as bad as Madame Web. No movie is. If you trim around 15 minutes and pick up the pace, it’s an okay popcorn movie. However, the story is very generic. The setting and locations look very fake and purposefully engineered. Yes, I know how movies are made, but it you’re not even trying to make me suspend my belief, did you really do your job?

Should You Watch It?

Ultimately the title says it all. Maintenance was required but not performed. There’s really nothing to see here, just another synthetic simulation of a film and a genre we used to love.
