Mickey 17 [2025] - Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun

Mickey 17 is a dramady about the person’s purpose in life, and how to deal with death. A dystopian look at our current societal trends to be honest.

Written and directed by Bong Joon Ho, the mind behind the Oscars winning Parasite, and starring Robert Pattinson, the movie had a lot of expectations to satisfy and satisfy it does. It’s a thrilling, unpredictable, thought-provoking, and often wickedly funny movie that will make you laugh, while also contemplating the meaning of life, and the current political class.

Frankly, Robert Pattinson is to die for. While Bong assures that you are never disengaged with the cavalcade of shenanigans he pumps into your eyeballs, Pattinson embodies his role as a person who has a job to do, which happens to be dying. At first, he signed up to run away from a problem. At some point, he falls in love and just accepts it. But as usual, there’s always a twist!

Let us not overlook Mark Ruffalo as the antagonist, portraying an eerily familiar character. The moment he speaks you will understand what I mean. He excels in making us despise him, while also evoking a degree of compassion for his predicament.

It’s an “everything and the kitchen sink” journey that yields riotous and remarkable results. The movie works well as a black comedy, but when it shifts into more serious territory, as a science fiction thriller, it struggles and feels oddly quirky.
