The Thing About Harry is that this movie actually works, without even trying to. Romance, comedy, heart and more.
Who said that romance is dead? In this movie, Jake Borelli & Niko Terho prove that it isn’t. The Thing About Harry got so many things right. It was in the unique position of trying to live up to the lofty expectations of being one of Freeform’s first queer rom com’s while also being a classic story like everything else. The movie will give romantics the weekend fodder they need to laugh, cry, and root for Sam and Harry on the road to love.
Overall, the movie gave me everything I wanted from a romantic comedy. True comedy with a side of romance that isn’t trying too hard to preach us like Bros. Where Bros failed miserable due to trying too hard, this movie doesn’t even approach it. At least, it gives you the impression that it isn’t.
Instead of preaching about queer culture and dating, writers Peter Paige & Joshua Senter integrate it into the storyline in the most natural way. Oh, Harry is pansexual? Cool. Moving on. In addition, we watch the two characters grow and develop their relationship. Yes, some production shortcuts were made, but to be honest, I didn’t really mind them.
