Monarch: Legacy of Monsters – Season Two [2026] on Apple TV

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters - Season Two [2026] on Apple TV

Season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is another fine effort from Hollywood to capitalize on the Godzilla fanfare. But Japan still holds the crown.

Thing is, between the two seasons of Monarch, we got the superb Godzilla Minus One. Pitting Legacy Of Monsters to it as a flawed premise.

While the first season had the difficult task of introducing well, everything, while also tying to the movies, season two feels freer in many ways. It is unburdened by its attachment to Legendary’s “Monsterverse”; at its best, the show has fun exploring its identity divorced from franchise maintenance.

However, on its own, season two is not great. I don’t know if I’m the target audience for it, or not, but for all its faults, season 2 did interest me enough to see it through to the end and still have some interest in seeing where a few of these characters go…Sadly, it’s the Titans of the show that I’m interested in following up with, not the humans.

As much as I appreciate the nuances of the characters fleshed in this season, it honestly felt like a family telenovela that kept jumping sets without any logic or reason to it, while also forcing new plot lines out of nowhere, on a backdrop of familiar Kaju monsters fighting each other here and there.

Is that a good thing? I don’t know. But Season two didn’t hook me as much as its predecessor.

While the first season does most of the heavy lifting to tie in the movies, season two switches to family drama and infighting, making them the “monsters” of the universe.
