Slow Horses keep on being Apple TV’s gold mine, and it’s all thanks to Gary Oldman‘s stellar performance.
After a slower than usual fourth season, the fifth outing is a harrowing season that echoes with real-life global tensions. Rather than trying to redo that mano-a-mano dynamic, prolonging the suspense and the mystery of the villain, this season is intriguing, and culminates in a hugely satisfying twist.
However, because one of the plot points is so evident, this season might be better enjoyed binged as a whole, so you’re not left waiting an entire week before being able to wash the glaring predictability out of your eyes.
Oldman is back in the field, if you can call it this way, and his character predicts almost everyone’s move, all the way to the end, including the first desk. That last scene was magical and it made me love Oldman, and the show, even more.
To date, it’s been consistently excellent despite its rapid roll out – surely it can’t possibly keep that up? One day, it’s bound to start going downhill. But today is not that day. Can’t wait for what’s next! I think this show can easily run for another four seasons.
Should You Watch It?
I consider it a cultural miracle that Slow Horses remains this funny and sharp. One of the best seasons.
