The Studio, pitched as a sarcastic and comedic show, feels more like a shouting match full of cameos. Unsurprisingly, it’s already renewed.
Surprisingly entertaining, The Studio pitches itself as a sarcastic look at Hollywood. Some episodes of The Studio are stronger than others. However, the whole show felt like an overstuffed shouting match full of cameos.
Like most Rogen projects, the show is proudly potty-mouthed but ultimately toothless. While of-the-moment references let movie buffs feel let in on the show’s in-joke, they make the season as perishable as a fresh banana. Its references will all be passé two week’s after the episode airs.
To be honest, Rogan is engaging as a lead, putting on his producer’s hat to tell that side of the story, but, in the end, the series is short on identifiable or likable characters.
One day after I finished watching, I really don’t remmember what anyone did or any specific characters aside from Rogan. Like, Catherine O’Hara & Kathryn Hahn were in most episodes. But they were unremarkable enough that their presence easily fades out. Instead, I remember James Franko yelling for a whole episode.
And it’s feaking Catherine O’Hara and Kathryn Hahn!
