Film: Novocaine [2025] – Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder

Novocaine was made for Jack Quaid. A John Wick meets The Boys with a mix of satirical comedy. Sometimes over the top. Overall great.

A comedy so entertaining and funny it’s like watching the sun rise during the storm. Jack Quaid finally manages to be engaging. As much as I enjoyed his presence in Amazon’s The Boys, his character felt blank and heavy (not in a good way). I wanted to punch him to wake him up. Thanks to this movie, you can!

This is a charming and violent rom-com that wears its numbed heart on its goofy sleeve and feels like Nobody meets True Romance. It’s fresh and funny, with emotion beyond its seemingly one-note premise.

Yes, some might find it boring. Like “we get it, he doesn’t feel pain”, but directors Dan Berk & Robert Olsen clearly figured out a way to keep us, the viewers, engaged and waiting to see what’s next. They skillfully balance graphic violence with authentic emotion and sharp humor.

It’s a screwball action comedy that’s like a gory Looney Tunes with an unexpectedly sweet romantic setup. … an amusing shot of adrenaline. Yes, you might forget about it within two hours of seeing it, but that’s the point. It definitely won’t redefine the genre, but this one is solidly fun as far as action comedies go.

Should you watch it?

The deaths, the blows, the injuries, all happen in the most original way possible. Novocaine is an over the top but fun twist on action comedy movies.
