Film: Snow White [2025] – Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, Andrew Burnap

Snow White [2025] - Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, Andrew Burnap

The live action Snow White is not as bad as everyone is saying. If you ignore Gal Gadot’s disastrous performance, it’s better than Mufasa.

Disney had its share of successes and failures with their live action remakes. Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Aladdin were good. Mulan was okay, and don’t get me started on Mufasa.

However, when you decide on remaking the exact movie that launched your studio, the stakes are extremely high. I am not going to get into the drama and the public concerns during its production. I am going to judge the movie based on the final product.

While I am not a fan of Rachel Zegler as an actress in general, I have to admit that she did a commendable job in carrying the movie, and being its center. Her performance alone lifts the movie from a miserable 0.5/10 to 4. Did I find her special? Not really. Did she make the movie tolerable to watch again? Definitely.

However, Gal Gadot should really re-consider her career in acting. I remember during the press tour of the first Wonder Woman her saying that she was giving up on Hollywood. After watching her as the Evil Queen, it’s overdue.

There’s nothing evil in her performance. If anything, Gadot’s performance was more cartoonish than Lucille La Verne‘s performance in 1937. And not in a good way. Even as the witch, it felt like a talentless child dressed up in a Halloween costume acting as a sarcastic version of themselves. Gadot’s on screen time drags the movie down from being “meh” to “what the heck is this?”

The only thing close to Gadot’s disastrous performance as the Evil Queen is probably Dakota Johnson in Madame Web. And that should tell you a lot.
