Spoiler Alert made me cry. And I almost never cry watching movies. But Jim Parsons & Ben Aldridge got me with this love story with an unconventional ending.
The true story of Michael Ausiello & his partner Kit Cowan is brought to life in the most magical way by Parsons and Aldrige, directed by Michael Showalter. And you can feel how much care is behind this movie. Sure, it’s an amazingly conventional biopic, going through the ups and downs of Michael’s time with Kit. But it’s also increasingly earnest.
To be honest, I was cynical about Parsons. He’s not my favorite. However, in a lead role, he truly surprised me with his range. It also helps that Parsons and Aldridge are pure magic onscreen, with energetic chemistry that rivals any opposite-sex couple depicted in movies in recent memory.
Thankfully, the movie really takes its time getting to all the sadness. You learn to love this couple through their trials and tribulations, hookups, ups and downs. And it is wildly effective. This is a movie that tells a story of a not-so-perfect relationship that will make you laugh, cry, and feel like you are part of Michael and Kit’s life.
Get out the tissues!
Should You Watch It?
This movie is a sentimental snapshot of a relationship with an inevitable ending that shares the importance of grasping onto something you love before it leaves you through. I cried.
