The second season of Slow Horses pickups right from the beginning. It’s more complicated, but it’s worth it in the end, just like Lamb’s crime-solving methods.
While the first outing introduced us to our soon-to-be favorite characters, this season takes it a step forward by making them more human, and killing one of them.
In addition to a great story, this season has a determinedly cinematic quality that elevates it beyond most spy series, with a dark comedy twist. It straddles genres deftly, perhaps creating its own in the process.
Slow Horses season 2 ups the stakes and becomes even more enjoyable in the process. Of course, there’s no replicating a good surprise. So it does the next best thing—find new ways to grab your attention. Gary Oldman is more frequently center stage in the second season, and his roar is mighty, enough to topple kingdoms. Combining his fiery performance with a story that is tuned to a higher pitch of activity makes the series entirely engaging.
Even if you skip the first season, this show is perfectly made, it manages immediately to feel like something you know intimately already, even if you’ve never seen it before.
Let’s see what the third outing is about. Bring it on!
